So Far So Good

March 4, 2010

I must say I’ve been very encouraged by the number of complaints I’ve received this week.  Normally I’m not a big fan of complaints, particularly the ones that are directed toward me, but this is an exception.  The number of people who have commented to me about their electronics fast has been a real boost to me.  It’s great to know how many people are diving into the river this week and to hear their stories.  Young and young at heart, even entire house holds becoming Luddites for 7 days!  Most encouraging though is the impact people have noted beyond just freeing up time for other things.  It seems this week has done well to increase our awareness of God and hopefully made us more open to His voice among the quieted din.  I hope your prayer, reading and outward streams are having equal impact this week.

One final note.  As I type this I am at work (and legitimately using my computer) and my randomizing media player decided this was the perfect random time to play “Wade in the Water”.  lol

  1. Hey Mike: I give props to all those that were able to give up electronics for the week. For a number of reasons (which I am sure were mainly excuses) I chose to reduce my time using electronics. Only problem is, as the week progresses it becomes easier and easier to use those electronics more and more!
This week’s is drink only water – I figure that’s great no problem at all for me but then I realized that if it isn’t going to be difficult for me or a struggle it’s not really a “surrender” is it?

  2. Just wanna say that I don’t think any other week fast will compare to how difficult this one was.

You are right, I had more time to ‘think’, but it was also nice to read and well, I must admit, the quietness was the most noticeable thing.

Not hum of computers, just the fridge, the apartment was eerily quiet.

A very interesting and good experience, but will I do it again? Well…give me about 5 years to recover and I will try again.

(I am a computer programmer who also does work at home and keeps in contact with family far away electronically, so yeah…all in context…)
